Despite a crippling third-degree burn, firefighter Reid Harris takes a job in the Middle East to avoid financial ruin. He arrives in BuHasa, an industrial powerhouse that is often the prime target for terrorists. Although Reid has to deal with his physical disabilities, he is thrown into despair, as new threats bring on post-traumatic episodes.
Dave Fulton, the former Hillfort Fire Chief, brought Reid halfway around the world. His hopes that Reid will train the department diminishes as he realizes his former protégée is no longer the person he knew. The locals are reluctance to cooperate, and Dave has given up on his sobriety. Life takes on a complex curve when Ahmed, a troubled local, develops an intense fixation on Reid, leading to a dark and haunting obsession.
The frequent attacks by BuHasa reach a critical point when they escalate into a life-threatening explosion, which ultimately sets the stage for a dramatic showdown between Ahmed and Reid.
